Léa Bauchet, a student's fight for women's safety

Viewed 419 times

At just 22, Léa Bauchet embodies a new generation of committed young women, determined to turn hardship into action. A native of Brest and a student at ESSCA, a leading business school, she is the founder of My Self Key, a multifunctional keyring designed to prevent aggression and strengthen women's self-defense. Behind this creation lies a deeply moving personal story, which she has chosen to make public in order to raise awareness and provide concrete solutions.

An academic career focused on commitment

As a business school student, she was not only destined for a career in marketing or finance. Her time at ESSCA was marked by a strong commitment to social causes, in particular the fight against violence against women. It was during her studies that she found the strength and resources to turn her story into a driving force for change.

An initiative born of trauma

In May 2022, Léa is the victim of a chemical submission, followed by a double rape and sequestration. The assault profoundly changed her life. Instead of keeping quiet, she decided to testify publicly on the Ulule platform, in a poignant campaign entitled "I was the victim of chemical submission, sequestration and a double rape". Her aim: to break the silence and raise awareness of a phenomenon that is still too little known.

But Léa doesn't stop there. Convinced that action must be taken to prevent such violence, she set about creating My Self Key, an innovative key ring that is discreet, practical and designed with women in mind.

My Self Key: a prevention and empowerment tool

My Self Key combines four essential tools in a single, compact key ring: a 130-decibel audible alarm, pepper spray, LED light and a window breaker/battery cutter. The idea is simple: to give everyone the opportunity to defend themselves, report an aggression or escape a dangerous situation more easily. Léa has designed this object with care, in collaboration with security professionals, but also drawing on her own experience.

Launched on Ulule, the fund-raising campaign was a resounding success, buoyed by strong online mobilization and the support of numerous media and associations. Today, Léa continues to promote her initiative, particularly among young people and students.

Free speech and a committed future

More than just an object, My Self Key has become a symbol. A symbol of resilience, of the fight against impunity and of women's empowerment in the face of sexual violence. Léa Bauchet now wants to go even further, by developing other awareness-raising tools and helping to change mentalities.

Her story and her commitment have already left their mark on many people. Through her courage and determination, she is paving the way for a more aware and supportive youth, ready to fight for a safer world.
